We Happy Few, the psychedelic survival roguelike from Contrast developer Compulsion Games, is now available on Xbox Preview and several early access channels for Windows PC. There is also a new trailer for the game, which you can view above.
The game takes place during the 1960s in an Orwellian, alternate-history Britain where citizens of the island town Wellington Wells are required to take a drug called Joy to forget the horrors of the past. Your character has decided to kick the habit, causing the law-abiding denizens to turn against you.
We Happy Few is played from a first-person perspective, and players will use melee weapons to defend themselves against the town residents. The game is a balancing act, requiring the player to monitor hunger, thirst and health levels while dressing properly and popping harmful Joy to avoid angering the local riffraff. The environments are procedurally generated, and death requires restarting from the beginning.
The early access version of the game will not include some story elements, such as cutscenes and other narrative interactions, that will be in the final game.
