Cindy Shin and Marc Oosterholt from Whitby were literally stuck in Cobourg on Saturday.
After parking in a municipal lot on Albert Street on Saturday morning, they went to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Sidewalk Sale.
After taking a short walk along the beach, they wanted to leave but couldn’t. A car had boxed them in and there was no way for them to get out of the spot. Police and by-law officers were summoned to see what could be done, but because there was specific markings in the parking lot, and because the town only leases the lot, they said they weren’t allowed to tow the vehicle that had blocked the visitors in.
After approximately 45 minutes when all hope was just about lost, the people who parked beside them showed up and they moved, allowing the Whitby couple to back out and leave. Shin said he thinks the lot definitely needs to be marked off where people can properly park.
