UPDATE: Rail route blocked after vehicle hits level crossing barrier – Chichester Observer

18:05 Monday 11 April 2016

Trains between Horsham and Barnham are likely to be delayed or cancelled after an incident in Billingshurst.

Reports say a heavy goods vehicle hit the barrier in Station Road.

The road is now blocked between Lower Station Road and the Silver Lane junction.

A statement from rail operator Southern said trains are now running at reduced speed.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 mins at short notice,” it said.

A later update changed the figure to 40 minutes.

“An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.

“Customer Advice:

“Due to a vehicle striking the barriers at a level crossing at Billingshurst, all lines are currently blocked.

“We are currently sourcing replacement buses and will provide further details once arrangements have been made.

“Network Rail, who own and maintain the level crossings on the network, are attending the fault and will be providing updates to us. They are expected to be on site shortly and we will then provide further information about the problem.”

UPDATE: Replacement buses, which will cover all stations between Horsham and Barnham, are due to arrive at the two stations around 7pm. Disruption is expected to continue until 9pm.
