ANGRY Birmingham residents formed a human chain around a field for SIX HOURS to stop travellers settling on the site.
The neighbours joined forces in Brooke Meadow Road, Shard End, by standing in front of the gated entrance to the land.
One woman who lives in the area spotted the travellers trying to get into the field and sat on the gate in a bid to stop them.
She was then joined by around 20 more neighbours throughout Monday evening who formed the human chain.
Shard End blockade
The residents stayed there from 3pm until 9pm, when the travellers left the area.
One local, who did not want to be named, said: “The woman saw they were trying to get onto the field and sat on the gate.
“They didn’t like it and were threatening towards her, but she stood her ground and was then joined by others.”
She added: “In the end there were around 20 of us. We formed the human chain with people coming going until around 9pm.
“The travellers were circling around, being verbally abusive towards us, but we weren’t moving.”
Travellers in Shard End
The anonymous resident said the travellers had moved on from Shard End Park, looking for another place to settle.
“There had been around 20 caravans in the end at Shard End Park,” she said. “They had left a right mess there and there was a lot of anti-social behaviour.”
