PLAINS TWP. — A three-car accident slowed traffic on Interstate 81 in Plains Township Tuesday morning.

According to Plains Township Deputy Fire Chief Mark Ritsick, the initial calls on the scanner made the crash sound far worse than it ended up being.

The crash was reported just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, occurring around mile marker 170 on Interstate 81 going south.

According to Ritsick, each vehicle had only one occupant. The three drivers were all taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley, where they were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Traffic on 81 was limited to one lane while crews worked to clean up the wreck. By approximately 11:45 a.m., traffic on the interstate had returned to normal.

There’s no word yet on a possible cause of the crash or the names of those involved.
