A woman was injured early Friday morning when a driver plowed into a police sports utility vehicle in Brazoria County.
The wreck happened about 2 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Highway 288 near Country Road 64, according to the Department of Public safety.
Troopers said an Iowa Colony police officer had stopped a motorist for speeding. When he spoke with her, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol and asked her to exit the car to perform field sobriety tests.
The woman was standing between her car and the Tahoe when another driver hit the back of police SUV, pinning the woman between the Tahoe and her car and seriously injuring her legs.
The injured woman was rushed to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center. Her condition was not released, but troopers said she is expected to survive.
The officer was not hurt.
Troopers said the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the other driver, who refused to take a field sobriety test and was taken to the hospital to give a blood draw to be tested for alcohol.
All southbound lanes were shutdown for hours while crews cleared the scene. The lanes were later reopened.
