Aamir Khan, an incredible actor and master strategist who understands the nuisances of the business of cinema delivered a blockbuster masterpiece at the box office. Dangal is living up to the hype and expectations of audiences which clearly reflects in the appreciations and massive box office collections. But the online piracy is proving to be a matter of great concern and acting as a roadblock for Dangal to surpass other box office records.
Indian government which laid out stringent rules to crack down on torrents sites are proving to be ineffective in curbing online piracy which results in an enormous monetary loss in Bollywood every year. Despite TRAI’s clear announcement of blocking such torrent sites, there are many which provided access to content illegally. Dangal, is one movie which is facing the wrath of illegal downloads on these sites. Few of torrents which are still active in India after Government’s announcement are 1337X, KickAss Torrents and ThePirateBay. To access them easily, they ask you to use VPN on these illegal URLs.
Dangal faced the first setback in a matter of few hours after the release of the movie on December 23. A Facebook user, going by the name Hashmi Ah, living in Dubai shared the full video of movie Dangal on the social media. The video spread like wildfire with netizens watching the movie online and as well as downloading it. The link was finally removed from Facebook because of copyright issues, but Dangal had faced some damage by then.
After the Facebook fiasco, Aamir Khan’s ambitious movie became a prey to miscreants on YouTube. Dangal was leaked online on several YouTube channels. Despite, the full movie being removed from YouTube citing copyright issues by Disney India, the movie was leaked on other such illegal channels. Dangal, which was supposed to be the biggest release of the year after Salman Khan’s Sultan is braving such horrendous criminal activities. It is high time piracy and such illegal options of watching online or downloads available on torrents sites be dealt with more stringent rules.
