Colonial Forge blocked Hylton’s 35-yard field goal attempt with 18 seconds left in Friday’s Conference 4 game to preserve its 28-27 win.
Hylton (2-2, 5-3) took a 27-21 lead with 9:26 left in the fourth quarter on Mike Collins’ 30-yard touchdown run, his second of the night. The point after attempt was no good. The touchdown was set up by DeVijan Franklin’s interception.
The Eagles (4-0, 7-1) retook the lead for good with 5:19 left in the game on Ethan Garwood’s 1-yard run. Jadon Redding converted the extra point.
Ricky Slade led Hylton with 139 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown. Collins added 105 yards on eight carries. Brandon Benson threw for 58 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Hylton had two turnovers (interception and fumble) for the game, while Colonial Forge had three (two fumbles, one interception).
Hylton was penalized eight times for 65 yards, Colonial Forge three times for 25 yards.
