Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to Westley Road close to its junction with Flemyng Road shortly after 3.30pm to reports of a collision between an Audi and a Ford Ka.

The road is completely blocked by the accident and police are still at the scene.

Paramedics arrived to find a man had been hurt.

He is currently being treated for suspected arm and head injuries, but it is not yet known if they are serious.

It is likely the man will be taken to West Suffolk Hospital, a police spokeswoman said.

No injuries have been reported for the other driver involved, but more details are expected to be provided later on today.

Firefighters from Bury St Edmunds were called to extinguish a minor fire which had sparked in one of the vehicles after the crash.

Police officers believe the road will be shut to traffic for around an hour while recovery work is undertaken.

Witnesses to the crash or anyone with information should call Suffolk police on 101 quoting CAD reference number 207.
