ELIZABETHTOWN – A log truck overturned this morning in Bladen County at the intersection of N.C. 53 and N.C. 210, dumping its load and blocking the road for more than an hour, the Highway Patrol said.
It happened about 11:30a.m. near the Kelly community, Trooper K.L. McVicker said. The intersection was finally cleared about 1:15 p.m.
The truck, driven by Sonny Smith, 24, of Warsaw, was owned by an independent trucker, she said.
Smith was traveling south, taking the logs to a plant in Riegelwood, when he approached the intersection and was unable slow down quickly enough to stop, McVicker said.
“As he came up on it, he lost control of the truck and it overturned on its right side,” McVicker said.
Smith suffered only minor injuries.
Smith was cited for failing to stop for a stop sign.
