Another messaging app was blocked because of terrorism – Komando

It seems that every week there’s another terrorist attack. That may include yesterday’s horrific attack in San Bernardino, California. And it definitely includes the deadly attack in Paris last month.

Facebook and companies it owns are trying to stem some of that violence. Specifically, they’re blocking other sites used by terrorists to spout their anger and incite violence.

That includes Facebook-owned WhatsApp blocking the messaging app Telegram, which we recently told you has made attempts to prevent ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) from using it. ISIS claimed responsibility on Telegram for the Paris terrorist attacks.

Shortly after the Paris attacks, Telegram said on Twitter that it had shut down nearly 80 channels that ISIS had been using. ISIS reportedly uses Telegram, a secure encrypted site, to secretly share information. That may include plots for new terrorist attacks.

WhatsApp, a Telegram competitor, is now blocking its users from linking to Telegram. Facebook has also shut down Telegram’s Facebook page.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov noted this on Twitter. He has also said that WhatsApp’s action is censorship. What do you think? Let us know in comments.
